What others are saying
Fort McAllister State Park is a beautiful campground located near Richmond Hill, Georgia, about 20 miles south of Savannah. Surrounded by salt marsh and waterways, the campground is situated on Savage Island and is home to many species of wildlife, including deer, squirrels, birds, bunnies, and reptiles. The campground is well-kept and offers spacious, level, hard gravel sites with full hookups, including 50 amp power, water, and sewer. There is also a dump station at the campground loop exit. The campground is conveniently located close to Savannah shopping, Tybee Island, and the historic Fort McAllister, which is a Civil War site and offers a museum and artifacts from the era. Half-price admission to the Fort and museum is included with a campground stay. There is also a restaurant, Fish Tales, located just outside the park on the Ogeechee River. Campers can enjoy the scenery, playgrounds, nature trails, and boat ramp, as well as canoe and kayak rentals and a zip line-like track. Wood bundles are available for purchase in cash at a small shed. However, visitors should be aware of the raccoons that are known to approach picnic tables to steal food. Cell phone reception is poor, but there is a Publix grocery store and liquor store a few miles away.
