This COE campground is open year-round and sits on a beautiful lake with many sites offering stunning sunset views. Although most sites might be close to one another, they are well-positioned and offer a decent level of privacy. The campground offers water and electric hookups only, and some sites have a steep driveway which could pose a challenge for those with larger RVs. Although the bathrooms are functional and clean, they are also quite old and in need of an upgrade. The parking pads are level and made of concrete, but the patio areas are made of a softer, dusty gravel material. Overall, R Shaefer Heard Park is a great spot to spend some time in the outdoors, especially for those who enjoy fishing or simply soaking up the beauty of the lake.

From The Campground

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers operates and maintains four campgrounds at West Point Lake. Registered campers are entitled to the full use of campground facilities such as grills, tables, dump stations, laundries and showers. Many West Point Lake campgrounds offer boat ramps, playgrounds, ball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, and nature trails. All four campgrounds can be reserved by visiting Recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777. Please note that you will be limited to four vehicles per campsite. (including boat trailers and camping equipment)
