What others are saying about this campground
Bruneau Dunes State Park in Bruneau, ID is a remote camping destination. The Wagon Wheel campground offers clear skies with utter quiet and only a few other campers. While there were no working flush toilets during our stay, the park does provide vault toilets to those camping. The campgrounds do not offer any power, 20/30 amp, or 50 amp hookups, but there is a dump site on the property. The park staff were attentive and regularly checked and cleaned the restrooms as needed. There are various activities throughout the day with a park guide, suitable for all age levels. This included a night walk where we were able to observe and learn about scorpions. Additionally, visitors can hike the dune in the morning during summer months as it gets hot fast as temperatures rise. The park is peaceful and although the sites have no barrier or dividers, they are nicely spaced apart and offer adequate privacy.

From The Campground
With one of the longest camping seasons in the Idaho Parks system, Bruneau Dunes State Park offers camping opportunities throughout the year. Campsites and cabins are available with plenty of first-come, first-served sites too. Bruneau Dunes park boasts the tallest single-structured sand dune in North America with a peak rising 470 feet above the surrounding desert floor. Explore the dunes in your hiking boots or rent a sandboard from the Visitor Center, but off-road vehicles are only permitted on the main road. You can also fish for bluegill in the lakes at the foot of the dune; unlock the mystery of the desert with a breathtaking hike or horseback ride; plan a group picnic or visit the Bruneau Dunes Observatory (during non-COVID-19 times) and gaze at the night sky through the Observatory’s collection of telescopes.
