From The Campground
The South Fork Salmon River Campground is a fee campground located in the scenic forest of towering, old-growth ponderosa pine in Boise National Forest. The campground hosts 11 campsites that provide partial shade and are situated near Chipmunk Creek. Warm Lake is just a short distance away from the campground and offers great fishing opportunities for cutthroat, rainbow, lake and bull trout. Visitors can also enjoy boating, canoeing, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, horseback and off-road vehicle riding, and hunting in the surrounding area. The WeWuKiye (Wa Wu Kia) Trail No. 252 and Telephone Ridge Trail No. 112 are popular for hiking and mountain biking. In September, visitors can visit the South Fork Salmon River fish viewing site to see chinook salmon that have traveled 700 miles from the Pacific Ocean to spawn. Wildlife including bears, deer, elk, fox, grouse, eagles, osprey, grosbeaks, whooping cranes and otters can be spotted in the area.
