What others are saying
Heyburn State Park is a great destination for a weekend getaway! It offers a variety of activities for all ages, such as biking, kayaking, swimming, bird watching, and more. The campground is located on the Trail of the Coeur dAlenes and is just feet from the side of the trail. It is a great spot for tent camping, with plenty of trees for hanging hammocks and plenty of space for tents. The campground is first-come-first-serve, and it is recommended to reserve in advance. The sites are unlevel, so bring blocks to run up on. There are fire pits, benches, and a nice little fire pit. The bathrooms and showers are clean and warm, and there is no-coin hot showers. The campground is also in view of other sites, but still feels private. There is a visitor center to purchase items, but it is closed by the time most people arrive. There are also firewood for sale on site. The campground is a great place to watch the sunset, cloud watch, and stargaze. It is also a great spot for family camping, with plenty of wildlife and activities to keep everyone entertained.

From The Campground

Heyburn State Park is the oldest park in the Pacific Northwest, created in 1908. It is comprised of about 5,744 acres of land and 2,332 acres of water, offering visitors a peaceful serenity of cottages, cabins, and campsites. The park features towering Ponderosa pines, flower-filled meadows, and placid waters. Visitors can enjoy miles of trails for hiking, cycling, and horse riding. The park also offers kayaking, canoeing, standup paddleboarding, and boating on three lakes and the shadowy St. Joe River. The Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes, one of the most popular biking trails in the western United States, runs directly through the park.
