Lake Walcott State Park in Rupert, ID is a small and well-spaced campground with around 22 sites. Most of the sites are situated around the edge of the circular RV campground and have access to some shade. However, the sites in the center have virtually no shade. If you are looking for tent camping, the tent sites are better shaded, open to each other, and only a few are located right on the edge of the lake. The lake itself is a dammed-up section of the Snake River, and it is a great location for boaters. During the week, the campground is quiet, but it can be very popular with boaters over the weekends. The campground offers electric and water hookups, and the dump station is not far from the campground. Note that the bathrooms are closed until further notice, and three rented portapotties are currently in use at the campground. If you are camping in the fall or spring, the spider situation may be less intense than during the summer months. The park boasts a lovely lake and boat launch and a frisbee golf course. If you like fishing, it is also a good spot to do so. The parks overall scenery is pleasant, but it is not terribly scenic. The hosts keep the sites clean, and the sprinklers need to be adjusted as they water everything, including your RV.
From The Campground
Lake Walcott State Park is located on the edge of Idaho’s high desert and offers a welcome refuge for water and wildlife lovers. The park has a great disc golf course, awesome fishing opportunities, a canopied park perfect for group activities, and a variety of campsites. Campers can set up primitive sites along the water’s edge. Several group camp sites for tent camping are also available as are fully serviced campsites and cabins. Picnickers will love the grassy, shaded day-use area and disc golfers come from all over to play the world-class 21-hole course. The park is a great base from which to explore the Minidoka National Wildlife Refuge, which offers some of the best birding in southern Idaho.
