What others are saying about this campground
Fort Massac State Park is a beautiful campground located on the Ohio River and the site of historic Fort Massac. The park has recently been renovated with new pavement on the roads, a new bath house, and a very nice childrens play area. The campground features two large grassy, paved loops with plenty of space between each site, big well-trimmed trees, and a concrete bike path that starts in the park and goes for several miles on an old railroad bed. There are 50 amp sites, fire pits, and picnic tables at each site. The park also has two short trails and a museum to visit, along with some nice views of the Ohio River. Unfortunately, the buildings of the fort were damaged in 2011 and the area is still fenced off awaiting repair. There is also an overwhelming smell of dead fish that are laying aplenty on the shores of the Ohio River. Seniors are charged $20 for a weekend and $15 for a weekday Monday and Tuesday. The campground host is available in the late afternoon and evening and there is a “leave your money in the box” arrangement for wood for sale. There is no shower house or bathrooms yet, as it was torn down last winter and hasn’t been replaced yet. Potable water spigots are located throughout the park to fill up your fresh tank. The park is just a few minutes from Metropolis with a casino and a great restaurant called Fat Eds, and 15 minutes from Paducah, KY which has plenty of dining, shopping, and entertainment options.
