Kickapoo State Recreation Area in Oakwood, IL features big semi-forested plots that feel very private. While the campsites are extremely pretty, the fire pits are overflowing with ash and could be better maintained. Keep in mind that there arent any showers, and the restrooms are old-school outhouses with no lights. Some bugs were also a problem, including wasp nests. However, the area is quiet and rejuvenating. Those who wish to explore around can visit Champaign town, which is a surprisingly hip area. The campground is nice, with easy entry and exit, and pretty level ground. The hookup is electricity-only, so not a full hookup. The park costs $20 a night, but with added charges, the total may go up. Though there are some maintenance and upkeep issues, many campers enjoyed the area and their campsites were decently spaced out. While some spots have sparse grass, that wasnt a big deal for most campers.
