What others are saying about this campground
Opossum Creek Recreation Area is a popular campground located just 6 miles from the town of Shelbyville, where visitors can find a Walmart, restaurants, gas stations, bait, hardware stores, medical care, the Shelbyville Dam, Beach, and City Park with lakeside trails and firewood. The campground has 81 sites in total, including 17 tent sites with electric, 17 full hook-up sites, and the remaining electric RV sites. There is also a boat ramp, disabled/children fishing pond and pier, and 6 water hydrants in the park. The campground is cared for by the Corps of Engineers and seasoned camp hosts man the gate house at the campground. The campground is open year-round and is usually busy in the summer season, so it is advisable to book ahead online if you want to stay here. The campground is great for people with motorhomes, fifth-wheels, and campers who want to take in the Shelbyville lake town experience. There is a childrens playground and trails to walk toward the lake, as well as fantastic views. The sites are close to the water, and many campers have boats anchored right by their sites. There is no swimming right off of the sites, but there is a swimming cove behind site 28. Visitors can rent a pontoon boat from Findlay Marina or Lithia Springs Marina, which is only a 10-minute drive from the campground. The newer bath house is nice, and the electric even comes in handy for tent sites. The campground is also close to the US Army Core of Engineer Visitor Center and dam.
