What others are saying about this campground
Mounds State Park is a great spot for a family trip or weekend getaway. Located in Chesterfield, Indiana, the park is small but has a lot to offer in terms of historical, geographical, and natural information. Camping is affordable at just $37 for the first night and $30 thereafter. The sites are paved but narrow, and there is a rail line nearby that can be noisy at times. There is a charming camp store with a hummingbird feeder, and plenty of trails to explore. The park also has a nature center with common snakes and turtles, a rocky beach for kids to play in the river, and a swimming pool. The campground is well maintained, with wide and open sites, good fire rings and cooking grates, and clean bathrooms. The roads are narrow, making it difficult to maneuver a larger rig, and there is little wind protection. There is also a small municipal airport nearby, so there can be some noise from planes. The showers have limited hot water, and the train traffic can be high during the night.

From The Campground
Mounds State Park Campground is located in Anderson, Indiana. The park is home to several prehistoric mounds, including the Great Mound, which is believed to have been constructed around 160 B.C. The mounds were used as gathering places for religious ceremonies and astronomical alignments. The park offers a variety of amenities, including electric and youth tent campsites, a camp store, picnic shelters, hiking trails, fishing in the White River, and a recreation building. The Nature Center features a wildlife viewing room, animal displays, and interactive games. Naturalist-led hikes and interpretive programs are offered every weekend throughout the year.
