From The Campground
Salamonie River State Forest is a 950-acre forest in Indiana that was established in the mid-1930s to reclaim eroded land. The forest offers a primitive (class C) campground with 21 campsites and a horseman's camp with 15 sites. The campsites are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and offer pit toilets and drinking water. Hominy Ridge Lake (4 acres) offers fishing opportunities for largemouth bass, bluegill, redear, and catfish. The forest also provides access to the Salamonie River, which offers opportunities to catch largemouth bass, bluegill, redear, catfish, and walleye pike. The forest has several hiking and horseback riding trails, including the Blue Trail (8 miles), Red Trail (3.3 miles), Green Trail (1.8 miles), and Yellow Trail (2 miles). The forest also offers hunting opportunities for whitetail deer, turkey, squirrel, fox, and raccoon. Visitors are advised to wear hunter orange or other bright clothing while on trails during hunting season.
