GenieSummary

Patoka Lake Campground is a beautiful Indiana State Park located in the Newton-Stewart State Recreation Area. It offers a wide variety of campsites, from open circles in open areas to more private sites along ridges. Each site has a picnic table and paved patio area, and a shared water spigot is conveniently located nearby. The campground is very busy on summer weekends, with lots of boaters, but is nearly a ghost town by Sunday afternoon. There are two marinas for boat rentals and fishing, and kayaking on the lake is fun and easy to launch. There is a good camp store with an outdoor fish cleaning station, and two restaurants just outside the main entrance. The park also has miles of paved bike trails and a beach house with lockers and showers. The sites are electric only, and there are no water or sewer hook-ups at the sites. There is a large dump station with four spots for multiple people to use. The campground is family friendly and well maintained, with updated playgrounds for kids and plenty of wildlife to observe. The only downside is that the sites are close together and can be noisy on weekends due to large groups taking over an area. There is also no WiFi available, and the roads leading to the park are windy and hilly, making it difficult for those prone to car sickness.

From The Campground

Patoka Lake Campground is located in the Patoka Lake State Recreation Area, which covers 25,800 acres and includes an 8,800-acre lake. The campground offers 455 electric sites and 45 primitive sites, as well as amenities such as an archery range, disc golf course, hiking and biking trails, and interpretive and recreational programs. The lake provides habitat for freshwater jellyfish, bald eagles, river otters, and osprey. The property is also home to the Patoka Lake Raptor Center, which features a non-releasable bald eagle and other inhabitants. The campground is located just south of the historic towns of French Lick and West Baden, and just east of historic Jasper.
