GenieSummary

Ouabache State Park is a beautiful campground located in an old CCC camp. It offers spacious campsites, mostly shaded by trees, and a variety of activities for the whole family. The park is home to a bison enclosure, a restored fire tower, and a large lake for fishing and boating. There are plenty of trails for hiking and biking, and the paved bike trail in the park connects with a bike trail along the Wabash River that leads to nearby Bluffton. The campground is kept clean and well-maintained by DNR and fellow campers. Primitive campsites are open year round, and the campground comfort stations are heated all winter long. The only draw back is that there are no water and sewer hook ups at the campsites. There is an admission fee for the park and an additional fee for out of state plates. During bad weather, the sites can become wet and flooded, but there are large bundles of wood for sale at the campground. There is also a camp store near the swimming pool with limited supplies.

From The Campground

Ouabache State Park is a wildlife management, forestry demonstration, and recreation area in Indiana. The park is known for its raising of pheasant, quail, raccoon, and rabbit. Kunkel Lake offers excellent fishing and during the summer months, a naturalist provides information about the natural wonders of the park. The lodge recreation building is ideal for special gatherings and is now available all year. The park offers a variety of activities including nature center/interpretive naturalist services, bison exhibit, picnicking/shelters, fishing/boating, hiking trails, paved bicycle trail, swimming beach, tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball court, playgrounds, and camping. There are five hiking trails of varying difficulty levels that take visitors through virtually all types of trees and terrain available in the area. Several interesting footbridges dot the trail. The park also offers regional tourism information.
