Although it is surrounded by a light industrial area and several rail lines, it does offer convenient access to visit nearby Indiana Dunes State Park and National Lakeshore. The majority of sites are occupied by permanent residents and they have varied standards for keeping their lots clean. While most sites are equipped with a storage shed, some of them appear abandoned and filled with trash. Some trains pass by at all hours of the day with loud horns, which makes it difficult to get a good nights sleep. Golf carts are widely used around the park, creating a trail of dust. The management is responsive to maintain the sites facilities. However, visitors have observed a lack of space between the sites and packed trash areas.

Lakeshore Camp Resort is a 940 site Membership park located in Portage, IN. They offer 115 full hookup campsites and 12 cabins available for rent to the general public. The campground features a 22-acre lake, 4 pools, beaches, fishing, boat rental, mini golf, daily recreational activities, weekend entertainment, and much more! They are conveniently located 10 miles from the Indiana Dunes National Park, and approximately 45 miles from downtown Chicago, IL. Area attractions include; Deep River water park, Chicago train system, casinos, bike trails, zoos, and museums.
