GenieSummary

Lincoln State Park is a beautiful and well-maintained campground located just 5 miles from Holiday World and the Lincoln Boyhood National Monument. With electric (50 and 30 amp) and water hookups, it is open year-round and offers a variety of activities, including a beach, boat rental, nature center, amphitheater, museum, pioneer village, Abe Lincoln monuments, and hiking trails. The campground is full on weekends and summer months, and is patrolled regularly for safety. The sites are mostly level and shaded by tall pines, but some have a slight slope. The lake is clean and quiet, and the beach is a short walk away. Restrooms and showers are dated but clean. Cell service is poor, and WiFi is not available at the campsites. The store is convenient for forgotten items. Wildlife is sparse due to the high number of visitors, but the park is a great spot for families to enjoy camping, swimming, and exploring the area.

From The Campground

Lincoln State Park is a 1,747-acre park established in 1932 as a memorial to Lincoln's mother, Nancy Hanks. The park offers 10 miles of hiking trails, two scenic lakes, and an interpretive center to help you experience early life of settlers in southern Indiana. Your entire family can enjoy a relaxing time at one of the campgrounds, cabins or group cottages. Tour the Colonel Jones Home, the historic home of the merchant and Civil War officer who employed young Lincoln. The Little Pigeon Creek Baptist Church and Cemetery, located on the property, is where Lincoln’s sister Sarah is buried. The Civilian Conservation Corps, a national program designed to provide jobs for unemployed young men during the Great Depression, was instrumental in establishing the park’s recreational facilities. These include the CCC-built beautiful Lake Lincoln, Lakeside shelter, boat rental building (formerly a ranger cabin) and many trails. Sarah Lincoln Woods Nature Preserve is located in the southernmost portion of the park. A visit to Lincoln State Park is like taking a step back in time to when the land was wild and Lincoln was a boy.
