Ledges State Park is a nature lovers paradise with beautiful trails and excellent sights. The canyon road and limestone cliffs are awe-inspiring, and there are secluded spots in the trees for privacy. The campground is large and accommodates RVs and tents. The sites appear level and are wooded or open. The restrooms and shower stalls are clean, and there is water available. The campground hosts are friendly and helpful. T-Mobile service offers three bars. The campground can be a little tight to navigate with a large RV due to narrow roads, overhanging trees, and people parking slightly out in the road. However, the signs are helpful in navigating the park. The park is convenient and well-maintained, quiet, and shaded. The gravel surface site is well-packed but can be a little messy when it rains. A mat is recommended to avoid tracking mud inside. Despite the lack of Wi-Fi and weak Verizon service, the quiet atmosphere makes this park a hidden gem not far from town.
From The Campground
Ledges State Park is one of Iowa’s most historic and unique nature destinations, especially for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. A four-mile trail system winds through steep slopes and scenic overviews, with sandstone ledges towering 100 feet above the Des Moines River. Numerous 1930s CCC structures can be viewed throughout the park including an iconic stone bridge spanning Peas Creek. An ideal destination for the seasoned hiker, daytime picnickers and campers, Ledges State Park takes visitors on a breathtaking excursion amongst Iowa’s natural beauty.
