The Iowa State Fairgrounds Campground is a large RV park located on the southeast corner of the Iowa State Fairgrounds with two entrances, one from Dean Avenue and one from Grand Avenue. With over 3,000 sites, the campground is a great location to visit the attractions of Des Moines, with beautiful hilltop views of the city and fairgrounds. The campground is mostly suitable for RV and Camper Trailers, with some tent camping available. The roads are paved and gravel, with grass sites that are often uneven and on the sides of hills, making it difficult to level. There are plenty of trees for shade, but the ground can be soft and muddy. The campground has 700+ FHU sites, four 30 amp plugs, and a storm shelter/bathhouse. The camp hosts are friendly, and the locals are helpful. WiFi is not available, but there are plenty of local shopping and dining options nearby.

The Iowa State Fairgrounds Non-Fair Time Camping offers 160 acres of gently rolling woodlands, just minutes from city shopping, dining and entertainment. The campground has 2,300 sites with water and electrical hookups, 734 sites with sewers, and three large bathhouses with showers, toilets, and sinks. A unique safe shelter, including an office and bathhouse, is also available. The campground offers economical rates, 24-hour security, and fairgrounds facilities and planning staff available for larger groups and events. The campground is open from April 13-July 19 and August 22-October 15, 2023.
