GenieSummary

Waubonsie State Park near Hamburg, Iowa is a great place for a family camping trip. With scenic trails, beautiful views from the side bluff train, and plenty of green space, there is something for everyone. The campground offers basic amenities such as grills, fire rings, picnic tables, and electric hookups on designated sites. The visitors center is brand new, but unfortunately closed during our visit. The bathrooms and showers are clean, and there is a small shoreline accessible to fishing. The campground is not big rig friendly, as there are only one or two sites that can accommodate larger vehicles. The park is suffering from a lack of funding and staff, but the friendly park ranger was helpful in trying to make our stay a pleasant one. The campground fees are $5 higher in season, and there are several truck stops and restaurants located right across the state line in Nebraska near I-29.
