GenieSummary

The sites are spacious, with a picnic table and fire ring. There is easy access to the lake and its shallow so you can just put your lawn chair right in the water and sit for hours! Unfortunately, the park was quite littered with bottle caps, plastic bottles, beer cans, and cigarette butts. The roads are not well marked and there is no host or entrance station. There is a spring fed stream at the back of the sites and plenty of big beautiful trees. There are nice State park trails, beaches, and picnic pavilions all around this side of the lake. Cheney State Park is a great destination for camping and outdoor activities. Located just 20-30 minutes from Wichita, it offers a peaceful escape in rural countryside. The campsites in the North Loop are large, grassy pull-thru areas with electric and water, and a dump station in the Smarsh campground just down the road. The sites are spacious and have picnic tables and fire rings, and there are plenty of big beautiful trees for shade. The lake is easily accessible and shallow, so you can just put your lawn chair right in the water and sit for hours. There are also nice State park trails, beaches, and picnic pavilions all around this side of the lake. The park staff is friendly and helpful, and the bathrooms and showers are well-maintained and clean. Unfortunately, the park can get quite crowded on weekends and is littered with bottle caps, plastic bottles, beer cans, and cigarette butts. The roads are not well marked and there is no host or entrance station. The cost is a bit high - it is $23.00/night for 50 amp spaces, plus $5.00/day vehicle fee - but it is well worth the drive.
