Shawnee Lake Campground is a great county park located in SE Topeka. It has 140 campsites, all of which are back-in and stacked up close to each other, offering views of the lake but no privacy between sites. There is a gated entrance and the campground is patrolled by park police. Facilities include a heated fishing dock, swim beach, playground, picnic pavilion, softball complex, golf course, boat ramps, tennis courts, and Ted Ensley Gardens. There is a seven-mile paved path around the lake for biking or walking, and the campground has a dump station close to the entrance. The campground is also close to downtown Topeka and has a Dollar General, urgent care clinic, liquor store and two gas stations nearby. From Thanksgiving through Christmas, there is a holiday light display. There are 30A and 50A sites with electrical and water hookups, but no sewer. The campground is popular with local Topekans and can get crowded on weekends and summer holidays. There is occasional road noise and sirens, but the park and all its facilities provide a nice oasis near an urban area.

Lake Shawnee Campground is a beautiful campground located in Topeka, Kansas. The campground is conveniently located across the street from a gas station and a convenience store. The campground is also host to Winter Wonderland, a drive-thru Christmas light display. During the evening hours, there will be vehicles from the community driving around the perimeter of the campground to enjoy this Winter Wonderland and support an incredible fundraiser.
