GenieSummary

Burnside State Park Campground is a large and well-maintained campground situated among trees and rolling hills. It is close to Daniel Boone National Forest and Lake Cumberland and offers a public boat ramp for lake access. The campground has 94 campsites with electric and water hookups, a dump station, and some tent sites. Each site has a lantern pole, picnic table, sitting area, and fire ring. The roads and pads are paved and the campground is quiet and peaceful. The campground underwent a renovation a few years ago, which updated about 20 sites to have 50amp power and sewer hookups. There is a 18 hole golf course and marina nearby, although the pool is currently closed for major repairs. The campground is close to Cumberland Falls State Park and the sound from trains is audible due to the proximity to a large bridge. The sites vary in size and hookup availability, and some can accommodate larger trailers. There is no park access to the water, but the campground is a great place to stay for sightseeing and enjoying the area.

From The Campground

General Burnside Island State Park features an 18-hole golf course and a 102-site campground on an island. The park was named for the sideburn-whiskered Civil War general Ambrose Burnside. Burnside led patrols along the Cumberland River, circling this 400-acre island while on the lookout for Confederate soldiers. Visitors can enjoy boating, fishing, camping, and picnicking. The campground features 94 sites with utility hookups, two central service buildings with showers and rest rooms, and a dump station. The campground is open mid-March to mid-November. The park also offers an award-winning golf course, with a pro shop, pull carts, and riding carts available. Nearby Lake Cumberland State Dock offers luxurious houseboats as optional accommodations. Fishing enthusiasts can fish for crappie, largemouth and smallmouth bass, and striped bass in Lake Cumberland. A Kentucky Fishing License is required. Picnic tables, grills, and a playground are available for picnicking. Two picnic shelters (one with rest rooms) are available for rental up to one year in advance.
