What others are saying
Grand Isle State Park is a beautiful campground located on an island at the end of the earth, bordering the Gulf of Mexico. The campground consists of two rows of pull-through sites, widely spaced and separated by grass and palm trees, all well-maintained. The sites are excellent, with asphalt pads, picnic tables, and fire rings. There are about a dozen tent sites and probably 30 RV pull-through spots with water and electric hookups. The beach area is great for exploring, with lots of shorebirds and skimmers, and spectacular sunrises and sunsets. Be prepared to see cars parked along the side of the road and people fishing from any spot there is water. The park also has a large playground for kids, a boat launch, and a swimming spot on the lake. The area is a sportsmans paradise, with fishing, kayaking, bird watching, and crabbing all available. There is also a fishing pier and observation tower, although the pier is currently closed for repairs. The town of Grand Isle is a collection of fishing “camp” style houses, and there are a few local restaurants serving good seafood. The campground is nicely situated with dunes between it and the ocean that reduce the wind considerably, though not entirely. There is a loud, low rumble from fishing boats nightly from 10pm - 1am, and there are no sewer hookups on the sites. However, the Sand Dollar Marina has a laundromat that is open 24 hours and rarely used. There is also a grocery/hardware/everything store a few miles down the road. Be aware that there are lots of mosquitoes and flies, and if you step in the grass there are fire ants and/or mosquitoes eating at your ankles and feet. BUG SPRAY IS A NECESSITY!
