What others are saying about this campground
The South Landing Campground is a great destination for experienced campers with small trailers and Class Bs. Located in Louisiana, the park is a beautiful spot with plenty of wildlife, hiking, canoeing, boating, mountain biking, and friendly Cajun campers. The park has a visitor center with exhibits, nice hiking trails, and a recently opened arboretum with special activities. There is a reasonable amount of space between most sites and most are long enough to accommodate big rigs, although some roads around the loops are very steep and narrow. The sites are paved with trash cans, BBQ pits, picnic tables, and fire rings, and many are shaded by plenty of trees. The South Landing Camping area is more cramped and may not be suitable for big rigs, and the water and electric connections are either far back or on the wrong side. The park also has a splash pad for the kids and a large lake with cypress trees growing in it. The staff at the office are friendly and helpful, but the park is in need of updates and maintenance. The campground is overpriced for a public campground, and visitors should bring a lot of mosquito repellent and be aware of the unlevel pads and sites. The roads are narrow and there is a lot of traffic, making cycling dangerous. The pool is closed due to state budget issues, but the water playground is open.

From The Campground
Chicot State Park covers over 6,400 acres of rolling hills and water in South Central Louisiana. The park features Lake Chicot, which is known for its record freshwater catches of largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, and red-ear sunfish. The park also offers an extensive hiking/backpacking trail that completely encircles Lake Chicot and includes several primitive campsites along the way. Visitors can also enjoy mountain biking, boating, fishing, and swimming. The park has three landings, each with its own unique features, including cabins, lodges, campsites, picnic areas, playgrounds, and boat launches. The Louisiana State Arboretum, located within Chicot State Park, is home to a magnificent mature beech-magnolia forest and features an outdoor classroom and several miles of nature trails with labeled plant life native to Louisiana.
