Bass Harbor Campground is a great place to stay if you are exploring Acadia National Park late in the season. This friendly site is just a stones throw from the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse right off Highway 102A. The campsites offer a lot of options from big rigs to tents to cabins. A nice play area for the kids, a laundry, recreation room and large, clean facilities are available. Although some of the campsites are a little close together, this is not uncommon, and there are spots on both sides of the highway. Although it is farther from Bar Harbor than some other options, Bass Harbor provides a different experience away from the busy part of the Park. You can explore the quieter side of Mount Desert Island, with numerous trails and beautiful coastal views. The campground has a rustic feel with mature trees and a higgledy-piggledy layout. The sites are mostly spacious, but there is some variation in size and levelness. Many seasonal campers frequent the park. If you have dogs, there is a shady, woodsy dog park with large boulders and smaller rocks where dogs can sniff and explore. However, it can be buggy, so bring repellent. Mosquitoes may get the best of you if you stay unprotected. Overall, the Bass Harbor Campground is a quiet and relaxing place where you can enjoy the sights and sounds of Maine.
