GenieSummary

Desert of Maine in Freeport, ME is a small, quiet campground that borders the actual desert of Maine. The campground is extremely well maintained and the sites are fairly spacious. The bathhouse/restrooms/showers are beautiful and very clean, featuring cedar-lined walls that smell amazing. Each shower is in its separate suite, accessed through a separate entrance. They have a nice putt-putt course, and you can walk through the desert for free after 5 pm. The owner is hilarious and has a fantastic sense of humor. It is perfect for small campers with personality; no big rigs allowed. It is very close to Freeport and Portland, making it convenient for shopping at outlets like LL Bean.

From The Campground

The Desert of Maine Campground is a quiet and secluded campground surrounded by tall pines, sandy dunes, and a gentle stream. It features a beautifully renovated bath house, strong WiFi, and water & electricity available at most sites. The campground is located just 2 miles north of exit 20 off of 295, at the dead end of Desert Rd. It is fun, educational, beautiful--well-suited for families with kids, history buffs, nature lovers, science nerds, and curious travelers.
