What others are saying about this campground
Its a great place to get away from it all and enjoy some peace and quiet. Nesowadnehunk Field campground is the perfect spot to get away from it all and enjoy some peace and quiet. This low frills campground is located deep in the woods and is accessible by miles of dirt roads. It is the perfect spot for anyone looking to bag some peaks, see some wildlife, and cool off in a river after a long day on the trail. There are a variety of sites available, including tent sites, lean-tos, RV sites, and camping cabins, each with a picnic table and fire ring. The campground is close to the northern most point on the Appalachian Trail, so you’ll see a lot of thru-hikers. There is a ranger station that sells wood and is a useful resource for those that havent hiked the area before. There are no stores or running water in the park, so be sure to stock up on supplies in Millinocket before you make your way to the park. Dogs are not allowed in the park, but Katahdin Kritters is a pet boarding facility located in East Millinocket. Fall is one of the best times to be here, as the bugs are gone and the area is full of autumn color. This is the perfect spot to get off the grid and enjoy the beauty of nature.

From The Campground

Baxter State Park is a wilderness haven encompassing some of the most rugged terrain in the Northeast. The park lands are held in trust and the park authority is responsible for upholding the conditions set forth in Governor Baxter’s Deeds of Trust. The park is self-funded through an endowment left by the donor, user fees, donations, and revenue from the Scientific Forest Management Area. Governor Baxter’s first priority was to protect the wildness of the park.
