The Augusta-Gardiner KOA is a great spot for a last minute fall weekend getaway in Maine. This well maintained campground is easy to access from I-95 or I-295 and offers big pull thru sites with tables and fire pits. The hosts are friendly and provide a good map to the site and a cloth KOA bag with literature. There are also some really cute details, like a little fairy house and homemade, bear-carved benches around a KOA-community fire pit, that make the campground endearing. The campground is located near Augusta, with access to hiking trails, river walks, restaurants, breweries, dog parks, and lakes. The owners are friendly and very helpful and have been making improvements to the campground. There is a beach around the corner and a restaurant close by that was featured on Diners, Dives, and Drive-Ins. The outside seating area for each site is quite small, but there are plenty of activities for families to enjoy, including badminton, ping pong, shuffle board, putt-putt, and frisbee golf. The putt-putt golf course is a bit unsafe, and the deck has some bowing boards that are not marked, so caution should be taken. The water has a strong sulfur smell and the cabin may be smelly and dirty, but the bathrooms are kept clean. Overall, Augusta-Gardiner KOA is a great spot for a weekend getaway.
