What others are saying about this campground
Rocky Gap State Park is a popular destination for families and nature lovers alike. Located in the mountains of Maryland between Hagerstown and Cumberland, the park offers a variety of activities including swimming and boating in the lake, hiking trails, an aviary, a nature center, and educational interpretive programs. The campground has semi-private and large tent sites, picnic tables, and small wood posts with lantern hooks and camp stoves. There is a strict no alcohol policy, but kayaks, paddle boards, and canoes can be rented for $5-10 an hour. The bath house is clean and has two showers with lockable doors and small changing rooms. There is also a camp store with basic amenities and ice cream. The park is close to the interstate so there is some road noise, but it is quiet by 10 pm. There is a dump station and electric pedestals with good water pressure. The park is bear country and there are wild turkeys in the area. The 5 mile loop trail around the lake is a great way to explore the area and Cumberland is nearby for dining and shopping. Rocky Gap is a great family spot with lots of activities and a peaceful atmosphere.

From The Campground
Rocky Gap State Park is a 3,000-acre public land in Western Maryland's Allegany County. The park is surrounded by rugged mountains and features the 243-acre Lake Habeeb, known for having the bluest water in the state. The lake is fed by Rocky Gap Run, which winds its way through an impressive mile-long gorge, displaying sheer cliffs, overlooks, and a hemlock forest dense with rhododendron and mountain laurel. Overlooking the lake is Evitts Mountain, named for one of the first European settlers in Allegany County. The park offers camping, hiking, boating, fishing, hunting, and other recreational activities.
