New Germany State Park is a great spot for a quiet and peaceful camping experience. Each campsite is equipped with a fire ring with grill grate, and a large composite picnic table. The Hemlock loop is the only loop that allows pets, and has plenty of room for pup, TV, pop-up gazebo, and gear. The park offers a small lake for swimming, kayaking, and fishing, as well as numerous trails for hiking, running, and biking. In the winter, the park is popular for cross country skiing and snowshoeing, and there is a lodge with a gift shop and snack bar, as well as areas to charge phones and WiFi. There is very little to no cell phone reception in the park, so it is an unplugged, “connect with nature” type of camping experience. The only downside is the lack of hookups, but the park is a great destination for families with children looking to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature.

From The Campground

New Germany State Park is a mountain gem nestled between the 2,900 ft. Big Savage Mountain to the east and the eastern Continental Divide along Meadow Mountain to the west. The park has diverse forests with ten miles of multi-use trails and a small lake suitable for fishing, swimming, and paddling. There is no cell phone service at New Germany State Park. An emergency phone (911 ONLY) is available inside the Lake House at 403 McAndrews Hill Road, Grantsville, Maryland. A pay phone is also available at 474 McAndrews Hill Road, Grantsville, Maryland (across the road from New Germany Lake).
