Smallwood State Park is a great spot for a peaceful camping getaway. The grounds are well maintained and the bathrooms are some of the cleanest youll find. There are plenty of trails and fishing spots, and the marina at the day-use area is great. Theres a nice, brand new playground, and a pavilion which is only open a few days out of each month during the summer, and for an open-house type event around Christmastime. Sites are well equipped with fire rings, grills, lantern posts, and picnic tables. There is plenty of shade and overflow parking if needed. Its only an hour south of DC and close to several national/historical sites. Its a great spot for those looking for a quiet, woodsy setting to just hang out and camp.
From The Campground
Smallwood State Park takes its name from General William Smallwood, a native born Charles Countian. The 628 acre park offers a marina, boat launching ramps, a picnic area, camping area, pavilions, a recycled tire playground and nature trails. On occasion, there are craft demonstrations, military exhibitions and other special events.
