. This campground is perfect for those looking for a peaceful and natural camping experience. The sites are spread out, wooded, and some of them are located right along the stream. The sound of the rushing creek provides a peaceful white noise. The nearby Savage River reservoir is great for kayaking, and the camp store nearby offers a good selection of basics along with boat rentals. Mosquitos are an issue, but by no means awful. Pit toilets are a nice long walk or a short drive away and not the worst I’ve seen. This is a great place for a short stay or a whole camping trip.
From The Campground
Situated at the mouth of the Savage River Reservoir, Big Run State Park is the perfect base camp from which to enjoy the surrounding Savage River State Forest. Campers at Big Run have easy access to fishing, boating, hiking or hunting opportunities. Autumn visitors have a spectacular view of the changing colors on the surrounding mountain ridges. Become familiar with the park's primitive conditions before your visit.
