What others are saying about this campground
Cunningham Falls State Park - Houck Area is a great place for families to camp and explore. It is located in the Catoctin Mountains, just 5 miles away from the National Park Services Catoctin Mountain Park, and is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The park offers 149 sites in five different loops, ranging from dispersed walk-in to camping by the lake. It is pet friendly, but pets must be leashed and not permitted on the sandy beach area during season. The 43 acre Hunting Creek Lake offers great fishing and a sandy beach area for swimming. There are also easy loop hikes around the campsite with a decent waterfall depending on when it last rained. The campground requires you to pass through a staffed office at the entrance and a gate, and is well-maintained with level gravel sites, fire pits, picnic tables, and bath houses. The trails are well-kept and the scenery remains as natural as possible. There is a camp store with hot drinks and ice cream, and the camp fee includes access to the lake area. The park is usually busy and it is recommended to secure a site in advance. Colorfest in the town of Thurmont is also a great event to check out around Columbus Day weekend.
