Alcona County Park is a great campground located on the Alcona Pond and close to the Ausable River, making it a great spot for kayaking and fishing. The campground has a five night minimum in the summer and offers 20 amp electricity on most sites, but no tents are allowed on the sites. The campground is clean and quiet, even when it fills up on the weekends, and the views of Alcona Pond are beautiful. There are hiking trails and a playground for the kids, and the office staff is friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, there is no online booking and no phone reception, and the showers can be icy. There is also a strict policy about not bringing ORVs into the park. Despite these drawbacks, this is a great spot for camping and a great value for $22/night.
