This campground is a great place to stay for a peaceful, rustic getaway. It is located off of Highway 31, but requires a lengthy dirt road to get to the main gate. There are two sides of the lake, east and west, with rustic sites available. Generators are allowed to be run day and night, and there are limited sites with power, so make sure to reserve in advance if you need one. The roads are dirt and can get a little dusty, but it never bothered anyone at the site. There is a beautiful sandbar with swim platforms in the middle of the lake, and wildlife is abundant. Fishing is catch and release, and no license is required. The campground is located near the Double JJ Resort, where you can find horseback riding and golf, and there is a store and the town of Montague close by for shopping and canoeing. The only downside is the highway noise at night after the birds and crickets calm down.
