This rustic campground offers level sites with picnic tables, fire rings, tent pads, and vault toilets. The campground is within walking distance of the lake, where visitors can find a beach area with washed stones, logs, and plants. The campground also features the Bay Furnace, a blast furnace from the Industrial Revolution, and a walking bridge across a gully. The campground is close to the Village of Christmas and the Kewaden Casino, and is a great place for visitors to explore the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. There are no sanding areas to swim, but visitors can take a day hike or a boat cruise to the Pictured Rocks. There is no hook-up or shower facilities, but there is a dump station and potable water available. Firewood is available for purchase at the campground.

From The Campground

Bay Furnace Campground is located in Hiawatha National Forest and offers 50 campsites with fire rings and tables. The campground is conveniently located across from the Kewadin Casino and offers easy access to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Alger Underwater Preserve, boat cruises, Miner's Castle, and many delightful waterfalls. The Bay Furnace Day Use Site offers spectacular views of Grand Island National Recreation Area and includes several picnic sites and access to a rocky beach along the lake. The campground is open from May 15 to October 7 and offers reservable sites, drinking water, vault toilets, and a dump station for self-contained vehicles.
