Union Bay Campground is located in the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness in Michigan, right on the shore of Lake Superior. It offers around 100 fully-reservable, electric sites with access to a modern bathroom and shower house. The lakeside sites are the most popular and spacious, and most often booked 6 months in advance. The park also has cabins and yurts, some of which are only accessible by trail and heated by a wood stove, making a winter adventure more attractive. The outdoor adventure opportunities in the park are endless, from hiking, biking, and paddling in the spring through the fall to skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. The campground is surrounded by rocks, cliffs, rugged trails, and wilderness, with great views of Lake Superior. The sunsets on the lake are amazing, and the park ranger even came by to go over the take cover procedure in case of a storm. The campground is also close to the State Park visitors center, where they have suggested levels of difficulty and numbers of hours for various hikes posted on the wall. The campground offers amenities such as showers and restrooms, and dogs are allowed on leashes and not in buildings. The sites dont offer a lot of privacy and are packed in tighter than they should be, but they provide a great view of the lake and access to the rocky beach. There is also a camp store with souvenirs, wood and ice cream, and a boat launch near the entrance with a dock and picnic table. Be aware that there is a lot of black fly activity in Northern Michigan during late summer, and plan ahead with supplies.
