The Union River Big Bear Campground is a family-owned campground located at the entrance to the Porcupine Mountains State Park. It offers a variety of sites, from tents to pull-throughs, with electric hook-ups and a water fill station. The campground is surrounded by trees, providing plenty of shade, and many sites have a view of Lake Superior. The campground also offers a store on property that sells wood, ice, and other goods. WiFi is available, but cell service is spotty in the area. There is a community fire pit with swings and chairs to sit and watch the stunning sunset nightly. There have been some bear sightings at night, so the owners are strict about trash outside. The campground is clean, well maintained, and friendly, and is a great base for exploring the Porcupine Mountains.

Union River’s ‘Big Bear’ Campground is located at the entrance to the Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park, Silver City, Michigan. We are privately owned and operated. Campsites are available with both power and water, are surrounded by nature, and close to the sandy shore of Lake Superior. The Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park offers 90 miles of hiking trails through old growth forest, numerous waterfalls and inland lakes and incredible vistas including the Lake of the Clouds escarpment overlook. Union Bay on Lake Superior offers sandy beach access within walking distance of your site.
