Van Buren State Park in South Haven, MI is a clean and family-oriented campground with large sites and moderate shade from tall pine trees. There is a moderate hike to the beach and sand dunes, which offer spectacular sunsets every night. The beach is very nice with nearby flush toilets. The noise from a nearby power plant and the highway can be a bit annoying at night. The campground offers brand new shower houses that are very clean. Although there is zero privacy between sites and some sites are on the small side, the campground offers two playgrounds and is very noisy during the day with kids. There are nice trails to the beach and in the woods around the campground. Additionally, there is an awesome paved trail that goes all the way to South Haven, providing great opportunities for biking and walking. The park staff seemed to be very attentive to any need and there is a host at the entrance who holds a coffee-time gathering on Saturday mornings. The campground was extremely busy on the weekend with lots of kids and dogs, but the quiet times were respected and overall people were courteous and friendly.
