Itasca State Park is a family-owned campground situated in the Huntersville State Forest, offering a near-wilderness experience with 11 remote backpacker campsites located between 1 and 6 miles from the main loop drive. The Iron Corner Lake remote campsite offers a fire ring, benches, a beautiful bed of pine needles for a tent pad, access to a crystal clear lake, and a clean three-sided outhouse with a scenic view. The trails in are both wide, soft, and well maintained, and the campground also offers two playgrounds, fresh hot cinnamon rolls on Saturday mornings, and a pavilion building with sides that can be opened or left closed. The owner is very welcoming and helpful with little ones and was on top of addressing the need for extra fluid for the porta potty within 10 minutes. The campground also held a bags tournament for all ages to enter and teams were randomly picked. Despite some negative reviews of the customer service, the campground is definitely worth a visit.
