What others are saying about this campground
There is a dump station, but price of $28 and no sewer at site seemed high to us.. This campground is a great place to stay for those looking to get away from civilization and enjoy a quiet stay near the Saint Louis River. The entrance is a bit tricky to find and is surrounded by potholes and overgrown foliage. Upon check-in, guests are required to provide personal details and sign a waiver releasing the campground from any liability from their negligence. The campground offers spacious gravel/grass sites with access to Knife Island, many trees, and neat geologic features. Portable toilets are available, but are only emptied once a week and there are no lights during dark hours. There is a dump station, but it is expensive and there is no sewer at the site. Additionally, the campground charges more than what is stated on the phone and sign at the office. Small brown ants can be found around the campground, and the roads are adequate for running. There is no fitness room, however.

From The Campground

Knife Island Campground is locally owned by Minardi Outdoors, set in a natural, wooded, grassland state throughout the sites. Located right on the St. Louis River in Esko, MN. Set upon a fantastic geological classroom with the slate rock formations caused by the glaciers. It’s a historical landmine, and due to these facts, we do not allow any of these rock outcrops to be disturbed. We also do not allow any digging or burying of refuse, or the use of metal detectors. We want to ensure that the natural beauty and historical elements are here and undisturbed for future generations to view and enjoy. We would also like to remind our guests that although we are nestled between a major freeway and highway, the wildlife is in abundance. Having Jay Cooke State Park as our backyard and surrounded by many trails, there are plenty of miles to hike and natural features to see.
