GenieSummary

We also took a day trip to Itasca State Park and hiked around the lake and visited the headwaters of the Mississippi River. The Leech Lake Recreation Area is a beautiful campground located in north central Minnesota, just 30 minutes southeast of Bemidji and a 3 & 1/2 hour drive from Minneapolis. The park is situated in the Leech Lake Reservation and Chippewa National Forest, and has 77 sites available for reservations online. The park offers a variety of outdoor activities, including fishing for Walleyes, Northern Pike, Perch, and Bass, biking on the trails, and a playground for all ages. The campground also features a comfort station with flush toilets, showers, and laundry facilities, a boat mooring area with a plug in area to recharge boat batteries, and a fish cleaning station building. The park is run by the Army Corps of Engineers volunteers, who keep the park clean and sanitary. There is also a free laundry area and a “comfort station” with bathrooms and showers. The campground is best suited for fishing trips and is a great spot for families with kids. There is plenty of availability for last minute bookings and the sites are level and well-maintained. The area also offers a variety of day trips, such as a visit to Grand Rapids for a movie, a trip to Tioga Beach in Cohasset, and a hike around Itasca State Park.
