From The Campground
Bimijiwan Recreation Area, formerly known as Knutson Dam, is a beautiful campground located on the northeast shore of Cass Lake. The campground is known for its canoe access to the Mississippi River and offers 14 campsites, accessible toilets, a well, picnic area, a fishing platform, and boat ramps providing access to Cass Lake and the Mississippi River. The area is rich in history, having been originally built in the early 1900s as a logging dam by the J. Neils Logging Company. The Forest Service purchased the dam in 1926 and rebuilt it in 1928 and reconstructed it in 1964. The area is also home to the innovative rock arch rapids, which restored spawning habitat for a variety of warm water species such as walleye and white sucker.
