GenieSummary

All sites are full hookup with a good amount of space between sites. The campground is built on a hill so some sites are quite sloped. There is a nice walking path around the lake and a nice beach. The showers and bathrooms are clean and well lit but there is no privacy between the sites. La Salle Lake is a beautiful Minnesota state recreation area located near Itasca State Park and Bemidji. It is in the process of becoming a state park in its own right and is currently administrated under the umbrella of nearby Itasca State Park. The campground is ideal for RV campers, offering full hookups, exceptionally nice restroom and shower facilities, and plenty of space between sites. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities such as swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and hiking. The lake is surrounded by mature forest in an ancient glacial moraine tunnel valley, and there is also a natural prairie area with rare wildflowers. There are two north woods style cabins for rent, and two paddle-in or hike-in dispersed campsites. The park is conveniently located 15 miles from Itasca State Park and 15 miles from Bemidji. Unfortunately, the main campground is rather open and stark for tent campers, and the sites are quite sloped, making it difficult to level the RV. There is no beach and no lights at night, so it is very dark with no moon. All vehicles entering the park must have a $5.00 per day sticker, and the state park reservation system leaves a lot to be desired. Despite these drawbacks, La Salle Lake is a great family getaway and is well recommended for an easy and quiet stay in northern Minnesota.
