What others are saying about this campground
Glacial Lakes Campground is the perfect destination for a weekend getaway or longer stay. Located just a short drive from the Twin Cities, the campground is surrounded by rolling hills and prairies with the occasional house or small town. The entrance station is new and modern, but was closed when we were there. The sites are rarely level and have minimal privacy, but the Lower Campground has electric sites. There is no shade, so it is best to cart-in rather than hike-in to a shadeless campsite. The road to the horse camping is not wide enough for two vehicles to pass, so be prepared for treacherous icy and/or muddy spots. The High Peak Trail offers a unique type of beauty and a strong wind that almost ripped my beanie off the day that we visited. The lake was really high when we visited, leading to a useless campground fishing pier and a boat dock that you had to swim to to use. Beware of biting sunnies in the swim area and enormous snapping turtles stealing the fish off your hook at the fishing pier near the swim area. Firewood is harder to find here due to lack of trees, but there are groceries and a DQ all an easy drive away. Renting stand up paddle boards was our favorite part of the trip!
