What others are saying
The North Shore of Lake Superior is a beautiful and serene campground located near Split Rock Lighthouse. The campground offers cart-in campsites with stunning views of the lake, lighthouse, and Ellingsen Island. The terrain is mostly level and the sites are nicely spaced, with some close to the water and others wooded. Visitors can enjoy the Split Rock River Trail, Pebble Beach, and the Day Hill Trail, which leads to an overlook with panoramic views of the lake. The campground is also home to a visitor center, lighthouse tour, and various trails. Campers can purchase firewood and ice from the camp hosts and use the fire ring with grill grate and half picnic table at their site. The sites also include a locker for food and gear and a latrine. Although the park is close to the lot, it is generally quiet and peaceful, with the exception of noise from the adjacent road and the occasional train. Campers should be aware that their state park pass does not cover access to the lighthouse, as there is an additional fee. Mosquitos can be a problem, so be sure to bring bug spray and mosquito nets.
