What others are saying about this campground
The campground has a nice visitor center and fire tower. The Big Bog Boardwalk is a mile long and takes you into a unique bog and muskeg. The campground is a great spot for fishermen, with access to both Upper Red Lake and the Tamarac River. There are 31 campsites, some of which are right on the river with their own docks, and 6 camper cabins set off in a more secluded spot by the river. Amenities include a clean and fresh shower/restroom building, a very nice fish cleaning building with multiple cleaning stations, and many docks along the river to tie your boat, fish off, or just sit in the sun and read a book. There is also an interesting visitor center and fire tower, and a decent beach across the way on upper Red Lake. The Big Bog Boardwalk is a great spot for a day trip, and the campground is great for fishermen and those interested in studying rare bog plants.

From The Campground
Big Bog State Recreation Area is a beautiful park located in Minnesota. The park offers camping, hiking, fishing, boating, and nature viewing opportunities. Visitors can choose from several campgrounds, including the Yellow Medicine River Campground, the horse campground, and the backpack/watercraft campground. Please note that due to a collapsed highway, there is now an unavoidable 16 to 20 mile drive to get from Yellow Medicine Campground on the east side to the park office, main entrance or horse campground on the west side. Visitors are advised to use the provided directions and coordinates in their GPS instead of relying on Google Maps or other map and GPS apps.
