What others are saying about this campground
This campground is the perfect destination for those looking to explore Missouris rich history and natural beauty. With activities such as swimming in the pool or Big River, canoeing (rent at the Thunderbird Lodge), hiking, and petroglyphs, there is something for everyone. The campgrounds are a bit rocky, but each has a picnic table and fire pit, and they sit on the hills of a beautiful Missouri pineforest. Big River runs through this park, so theres some great swimming and fishing here, and there are three hiking trails of varying difficulty. There is a pit toilet at the head of the loop, and further up is flush-toilet facility, further up from that is a flush toilet / shower / laundry facility shared with the primitive camping loop. Campground host sells ice and fire wood, and they do a fund-raising biscuits & gravy breakfast on Sunday. There is even a swimming pool if the river isn’t your thing & a couple playgrounds too. AT&T Cell service is excellent, and HD antenna picked up most channels. The town of Desoto is nearby if you need to run to the Wal-Mart for supplies or groceries. With friendly staff, outdoor pool, hikes close by and a windy maybe thirty minutes away, this campground is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with nature.

From The Campground

Petroglyphs, quaint hiking shelters and incredible Ozark overlooks define the Washington State Park experience. Easy access to the Big River makes the park great for swimming or fishing. Hikers can choose from three rugged hiking trails. Buildings constructed by African American Civilian Conservation Corps stonemasons complement the park and add to its sense of history.
