What others are saying
Prairie State Park is a remote, primitive campground located 45 minutes from Joplin, Missouri. There are 4 sites, 2 of which are paved and 2 are gravel/dirt. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring, and is relatively private and well-distanced. The campground is located in a wooded hollow at the edge of the prairie, and can accommodate up to 20 people. There are no showers or electric hookups, but there is a vault toilet and a place to get water at the maintenance area. There are also 14 miles of trails to explore, with bison herds, coyote calls, and birding opportunities. The sunrises over the prairie are stunning, and visitors may even get a close encounter with a bison. Dogs are not allowed on the trails, but are welcome to walk the gravel road. The campground is a great place to get away from it all and experience the true prairie experience.
