From The Campground

Wappapello Lake is a 45,000-acre project nestled in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains on the St. Francis River in Southeast Missouri. Completed in 1941, Wappapello Lake annually provides an estimated $3.9 million in flood protection to agricultural lands and developed areas along the St. Francis River. The lake offers a variety of recreational opportunities including camping, boating, fishing, hiking, and wildlife watching. There are 28 recreation areas at Wappapello Lake, including marinas, campgrounds, and picnic areas. The lake is also home to the Bill Emerson Memorial Visitor Center, which provides information on the history and ecology of the area. Visitors can take a virtual tour of the lake and participate in volunteer opportunities through the Corps Foundation and Volunteer.gov. Age and disability discount passes are available. Please note that many states are discouraging or banning movement of firewood to control the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), so visitors are advised not to bring wood from home to their campsite and not to take unused wood they procure while camping home with them.
