Beaverhead Campground is a great spot for anyone looking for a peaceful and scenic camping experience. Located on the shore of a reservoir, the campground offers a variety of sites with fire pits, picnic tables, and ramadas. Vault toilets are within walking distance of each site. There are no shade trees, so visitors should bring an umbrella or other shade device to keep cool. The campground is managed by a 90-year-old host, Wally, who is very friendly and knowledgeable. The sites are flat gravel pads and can accommodate large trailers. There are no hookups, but the views of the snow-capped peaks and the reservoir are stunning. The campground is also close to the Lewis and Clark Campground, which has full hookups. The reservoir is a great spot for fishing, boating, and bird watching. The area is also historically significant as it is the site of Lewis and Clarks Camp Fortunate. Visitors can also explore Lemhi Pass, the place where Lewis and Clark crossed the continental divide into Oregon Country. The campground is a great spot for anyone looking for a peaceful, scenic, and historically significant camping experience.
From The Campground
Clark Canyon Reservoir is a beautiful site located at the head of the Beaverhead River. It is the site of Camp Fortunate, one of the more significant spots along the Lewis and Clark Trail. It was at Camp Fortunate that the Lewis and Clark expedition met the Lemhi Shoshoni Tribe, and cached their canoes and a stash of supplies for the return trip. Sacagawea was reunited with her people here.
